Everybody has a different bucket list. After E I G H T years of waiting for this opportunity, I finally saw Paramore perform live at the Arena Wien in Vienna last night. Today my bucket list is one task shorter (for now).
Here is a little recap of the show for you:
One of the coolest things happened before the band even started playing. They came on stage and the first thing Hayley did was to bow down in front of us. Just like that. I have been to many different shows before and I have never seen a performer show this kind of gratitude before singing one word. This incredible gesture was followed by a fun and cute moment. The band looked at each other while holding their thumbs up to show they were ready and then kicked off the night with Told You So, a track from their latest album After Laughter.
To my surprise they did not play that many songs from the new record and instead performed music everybody was familiar with (e.g. Brick By Boring Brick, Ain’t It Fun, Playing God, That’s What You Get). They did, of course, play Misery Business which was highly appreciated by the crowd as you can image. If you are a true Paramore fan, you know the band always invites someone on stage to sing the last part of the song with them. Last night, two fans made it on stage and let me tell you – it was magical. Selfies were taken, tears were shed (or maybe I was the only one tearing up lol), performance was delivered. We also got to scream WE. ARE. PARAMOOOOOOOOORE., which you are probably familiar with if you have been to their shows before (or watched at least 238109302 videos of their live shows online).
After approximately 1,5h the show ended and people walked away singing Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody. The song played while the crew was taking down the stage and the fans were still standing there and singing along, which I could hear as I was leaving through the gates.
The whole atmosphere of the show was very relaxed, which is partly because of the venue itself. Brick walls, graffiti, tumblresque light bulbs, beer, open air, light breeze and Paramore in the middle of it all – it’s my favorite place to go to for concerts, especially in summer.
Before I show you some of the photos I took, I would like to give a quick shoutout to Bleached, the support act. The crowd was very welcoming and supportive, which I think is always important even if you are not the main act of the night. They are actually playing a second show at the Rhiz in Vienna tonight so if you are feeling spontaneous, go and check them out!
