Even though I’m super stressed at the moment due to the million exams I’m taking, I couldn’t be more excited for the month to finally be over. When I planned on writing my blog I came up with all these different topics that I could write about. One of my favorites is Artist of the Month but since I started my blog in late August, I had to wait until the end of this month to finally share my current fave with y’all.
Alright, drum roll please (yes, I know that you’ve already figured it out by reading the title but whatevs) … my first Artist of the Month is:
If you’re interested in the music industry then it’ll be no surprise to you that this artist is slaying the charts right now. In fact, he’s been doing so for weeks. Now, I don’t know about you guys but I had actually known The Weeknd before he was super famous and popular and I was kinda surprised to find out that so many people didn’t. I think that it wasn’t until his collab with Ariana Grande (‘Love Me Harder’) that people started to check out his music. Ever since that song came out I feel like the music industry has turned into fangirls cause all the chill on earth has been lost. After releasing a couple more hits (‘Earned It’, ‘Often’,…) he put out his album Beauty Behind the Madness on August 28th. While I was busy listening to Halsey’s debut album BADLANDS (which I’m still obsessed with btw) I took some time to check out what the fuss was all about: The Weeknd’s album is a game changer. Every song he’s released so far has been a success and the rest of the album isn’t any different. It’s A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. The more I listen to it, the more I fall in love with it. It consists of 14 songs (including collabs with Labrinth, Ed Sheeran and Lana Del Rey), of which 13 are explicit. The reason I’m pointing this out is because I feel like there are so many artists who record explicit content and while the songs are great, most of the time they just don’t come across as honest and real. For some reason it has become a popular thing to use cuss words in almost every single sentence of a verse/chorus because apparently that’s what makes the song and the artist (duh) come across as badass. However, I think that there is a difference between wanting to be a badass and being born a badass. The Weeknd was definitely born that way. When I saw that almost every one of his songs are explicit I was a bit surprised cause I didn’t understand the necessity of that. After I listened to the album I realized that it’s perfect the way it is. If I had to describe the album in three words, I’d say it’s mysterious, sexy and haunting – it leaves you wanting more. My favorite songs are Real Life, The Hills, Can’t Feel My Face and Dark Times (featuring Ed Sheeran aka the BEST COLLAB EVER OMG LIKE I CAN’T EVEN).
ps.: he’s going on tour soon so if you live in the US then you might wanna check out if he’s coming to a city near you!
